Dear friends

I have some more information for you about Sunday

There will be an initial slightly 'more formal' memorial gathering which will start at 11h00 at Little Streams, which will be followed by tea and light snacks. Asha died peacefully this morning at 7 o'clock.
Perhaps you could leave messages here so the family can read them when they are ready.
Heather, Peter and Kai (their son) have been staying at the hospital and are going back to Kalk Bay now

Tuesday evening

Gail has just phoned me
She had just left the hospital. Asha is still in ICU and is sedated and unconscious.
Yesterday Kai was able to speak to Asha.
Obviously no visitors, just lots of caring thoughts.

Laine who lives in the flat at Kalk Bay has emailed to say she is making sure the dogs are happy, just in case anyone was concerned about them.
Just to let you know that I still havent heard much news other than that Asha's condition is still really bad and has not improved. The family know about your support and thoughts.

Tuesday 24 january

Just to let you know that there is no news as Gail has not spoken to Heather or Peter this morning.

space required and positive thoughts

The latest info from Gail is that the family would like some space to be together with Asha. Visiting at 8 is not an option as Asha is still in ICU.
Her condition has not improved. They will be talking to an oncologist later tonight so there will only be an update tomorrow. A further request not to message the family until we hear otherwise

Small request

Please no more flowers!

Also a reminder that it is not possible to visit Asha at present as she is having that procedure. Please wait for an update before trying to visit her

Hi I have just spoken to Gail and have this information.

Kai is in Cape Town

The swelling has not got down so they are unable to do the biopsy this afternoon. They are however doing another investigative procedure.

No visiting possible at present

Asha's condition
There is some swelling at the moment, which is putting pressure on the brain. This is what is causing the forgetfulness, difficulty with words, problems with her right side, difficulty with numbers, etc. She's been on medication to bring the swelling down. However, this has not had the required effect, and the pressure is worse, causing the symptoms to intensify. This is why she moved back to Vincent Pallotti early.
The doctors have changed/upped her medication, so hopefully the swelling will go down and she can have her biopsy tomorrow as planned.

This the medical situation

The tumour is in her connective tissue. It's mostly in the left side of her brain, but has spread to the right. This is causing her issues with the right side of the body. The fact that it is in the connective tissue is what makes it impossible to operate on. Heather says they are going to try chemo or radiation or some other treatments (that we're not yet sure of) to try and shrink the tumour.
Friday 20 jan
At the moment there's pressure on the brain, which is causing the forgetfulness, difficulty with numbers and words, and headaches. They have been giving her steroids, to take the pressure off. This should bring her back to her normal mental state sometime next week, and is also so that they can do the biopsy, which is taking place on Monday. This is when we'll find out the exact details.
